Summer Meeting there was splendid weather, and the attendance was very Rood, though not quite up to that of Thursday. The racing was very interesting, with two or three exciting finishes. The totalisators were well patronised, and the sum of £9066 put through to-day, making £17,138 for the two days, which exceeds that put through at last summer meeting by -€5933. Following are the results :— January Handicap of 80 soys, second horee to receive 10 sots from the stakes. One mile and one furlong. „,„.,, MrG. Hunter's Whisper. 9st .. (Clifford) 1 Mr T. Stewart's Rosebud, 7flt 121b (White) 2 Mr A. Lloyd's Orator, 63t 51b .. (Ray) 3 Kuby,Befc3lb; Wanderer, fetlllb; Bay King, 6st 71b, also ran. Whisper was a hot favorite. From an even start Orator and Rosebud cut out the pace merrily till entering the back stretch, when Bay King and "Wanderer were with them, Whisper, two lengths away, last. Orator, Rosebud, Ruby and Bay King raced round the top turn in a cluster, where Orator showed the way into the straight, and Clifford made a move on the favorite. Half way down the straight Orator and Rosebud were leading, with Whisper coming fast on the outside; the latter being beautifully handled by Clifford, got home under the whip by a quarter of a length. Time,2min22-sthßec. Dividend, £2 las. Hurdi.es Handicap, of 75 soys; second hors® to receive 10 soys from the stakes. On e mile and three-quarters.
Mr P. Tancred'a The Spy, list 121b (Gravertock) 1 Mr J. Driscoll's Jacob, 93t 81b (Pell) 2 Mr C. Moore's Clyde, 9st 71b (McMorraa) 3 General Gordon, 9at, also ran. The Spy was a hot favorite. For the first mile Jacob, Clyde, and General Gordon raced together, with The Spy three or four lengths away. As they approached the road the favorite went up to Jacob and Clyde, and easily disposing of them led over the last hurdle, and won easily by two lengths, Clyde a fair third. Time, 3min 37 2-oth sec. Dividend, £1 19=!. R.C. Handicap, of 200 sove; second horse 20 soys, third 10 sove. One and a quarter mile. Mr G. Hunter's Cynisea. Bst 71b (Clifford) 1 Messrs M. and C. Hobbs , Prime Warden, Bst lib . .. .- .- (Cueden) 2 Mr J. Paul's Boulanger, Bsfc tCollello) 3 Kotuku 7st 101b, Lindsay 6st 101b, St. Mai > 6st 1010, Bay King 6st 41b (carried 6it 81b), Frolic 63t, also ran.
Cynisca was the favorite, and Boulanger was next in demand. After nearly half-an-hour'* delay the horses were sent away to a fair start, Cynisca and St. Malo's colors being most prominent, and the Cup winner led past the stand, wi'h St. Malo on her quarter, and Frolic at her heels, then came Prime Warden, who was a length clear of Boulanger and Bay King, who had got away badly. Round by the rtver St. Malo was taken to the front, Cynisca lying second, with Boulanger, who had threaded his way through, second. Along the back stretch St. Malo maintained the lead, with Frolic close up, Boulanger just clear of Cynisca, who in turn was a length in front of Prime Warden, Kotuku last. Approaching the road St. Malo was still leading the field at a merry pace, but at the turn the field closed with the exception of Bay King, who was tailing off. At the last turning to the straight St. Malo was done with, and Cynisca took up the running with Prime Warden, and Bjulanger at her girths. All whips were out, except on the favorite, who drew away without effort, and won rather easily by two lengths, Boulanger close up third, Kotuku fourth, and Bay King last. Time, 2mm 12 3-oth sec. Dividend, £2 15s. There was £1718 on the machine ac follows :—Cynisca, £535; Boulanger, £434; Prime Warden, £364: Kotaku, £173; St. Malo, £107; Frolic, £52; Bay King, £38. Juvenile Handicap, of 7550v3; second horse 10 soys. For two-year-olds. Five furlongs. Mr O. P. Donnelly's Hakimana, Bit (Coeflin) t Mr J. Paul's Cretonne. Bst lHb iPowel'.) t Mr W. C. Webb's May, Bst 61b (Derritt) 8 From a good start Hakimana and May raced to the straight, when the latter fell away, and Cretonne closed on to the leader. Hakimana held his advantage almost to the post, when Cretonne got up in the last stride or two and made a dead head, May a fair third. Time, Imm 2 3-dths sec Private watches made it lmin 4sec. Dividends—Cretonne Is ss, Hakimana ££ 2a. Selling Race, of 50 soys, weight-forage, winner to be sold for £100; 71b allowed for every £25 reduction in selling price. One mile. Mr A. Lloyd's Orator, £100, aged, Bat 131b (McMorran) 1 Mr J. Paul's Fleta, £75, 3yra (ColieLo) 2 Mr J. Thomson's Lancer, £100,6yrs (X. Polsen) 3 Vision, Bst 61b; Noisette, Bet 21b ; Mermaid, 7et 61b; Merlin, 6at 131b; Scraps, (fat 131b; Akatea, 6st 131b also ran. Orator led shortly after the start to the straight, when he was challenged by Fleia, and a grand race to the post resulted in a win for Orator by bolt a length. Time, lmin 45sec. Dividend, £i Us. The winner was bought in for £106, Metropolitan Handicap, of 100 soys; second horse 10 soya, and third 5 flora. Six furlongs. Mr J, Paul's Bomlanger, Bst 61b .. (Collelo) 1 MrW.C. Webb"eKuD>, .. (Oerritt) 2 Mr B. Yuille's St. Malo, 7st 51b (Cusdin) 3 Rosebud Bstslb, Lullaby 7st 111b, and Angler 7at 71b also ran. Boulanger was the favorite. Angler and St. Malo were the tirst away, followed by Lullaby, and they led for a quarter of a mile, when Boulanger improved his position. Bounding the turn Boulanger ran up to Angler, who was hanging out signs of distress, and Ruby made a bid for victory. At the distance Angler was clean out of it, and a fluctuating race between Boulanger and Ruby resulted in a win for the former by half a length, St. Malo half a length behind Ruby. Time, lmin 16sec Dividend, £310s. The deat heat between Hakimana and Cretonne in the Juvenile Handicap was then run off, Hakimana winning easily by six lengths. Dividend, £2 Bs.
