Theatbical. —After a plethora of aransements, Christahurch is once more likely to left desolate for a time. So far as can be seen no companies are ab present en route for Jfew Zealand from Australia. Mp Bland Holt is said to be contemplating ay visit to New Zealand ahortly, but nothing is yet decided. It is matter for congratulation in view of the periodical intervegoums, that the initial venture as managers m New Zealand of the firm of Messrs McMahon has turned out so successfully as it has. done. This being so, there is every, probability of their following up their late visit with opera or a strong comedy company. In the North Island and in Dunedin the same dearth of amusement continues. The Rev. Charles Clark is just completing. his season in Dunedin, and will pass through Christchurch to-s*y» en route to give a second season in Wellington.

So far as the officers are concerned —more especially the younger ones—Major Newall has been untiring in his efforts to. aid them, by valuable hints and aetf-sacrificing trouble, in obtaining a thorough knowledge of their duties. Under these cirooststanoea it is to be hoped that the Volunteers will not allow Major Kewall to leave for hia new sphere of duty without giving him some tangible expression of their respect and esteem.
