SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

NEW BRIGHTON.

Last evening the householders of New Brighton were called upon to elect a new Committee, on account of the district having been divided from Burwood. Mr J. Glanville, an old Committeeman, was appointed Chairman, and read the advertisement calling the meeting, which was convened by the Education Board.- The boundaries as defined in the advertisement were read, after which he read several letters referring to the election, one of which came from the Secretary of tbe Education Board, giving directions relative to the election. Mr Glanville also made a few remarks regarding the rapid strides that had been made by the district. The election of the Committee was proceeded with,' and resulted as follows :— Messrs Glanville 21, Purclias 20, Patterson 19, Sefton 18, Baynes 15, James Moor 13, Foster 13. At a meeting df the newlyelected Committee held afterwards Mr Porches was appointed Cnairman.

LEESTON.

Considerable interest was taken in the by-election for the Leeston School Committee on Monday night last, some sixty householders being present, while twenty more took advantage of the new Act relative to voting papers, and deposited them In the hands of the Chairman before the hour of che election. The new Act was considered a great improvement on the old cumulative system, and gave general satisfaction. The following is a list of the votes polled and the Committee elected.:—Messrs W. G. Lunn 60, W. D. Lawrence 59, ,W. Johnston 52, John Earnett 51, B. S. Cook 49, R. T. Jeffrey 48, T. W. Durarit 45, T. Frankish 21, F. G. Craddock 8. The Chairman, Mr Lawrence, declared the first seven duly. elected. The Committee afterwards -net, and re-elected Mr W. £>. Lawrence Chairman and Mr B. S. Cook Secretary.

DOYLESTON.

The election of a Committee for tbe new school district of Doyleston took place on MoDday evening. Only a small amount of interest was taken in this election, as the Committee have only some three months to hold office before the general election in April. The following were duly elected:—Messrs Werner, Bennie, McLachlan, Bobb, Kissell, Bentley, and Dickie. The Committee afterwards met and elected Mr John Bennie Chairman.
