HEATHCOTE.

The above Board met on Thursday last, at 3.30 p.m., in the, Board-room, Ferry road. Present—Messrs H. B. Kirk, W. Beer, F. Turvey, and E. J. Palmer. An apology from the Chairman was received and accepted. Mr Kirk was voted to the chair. The receipts were reported to be £94 6s 2d. It was reported that a well had been sunk on a public road in the Valley. The Clerk was instructed'to give notice that it muse be filled up. The Clerk was also instructed; to give notice to the owners and occupiers of land fronting on the Avon River, between Dallington and New Brighton bridges, that all fences across the River road be removed; also to the owners and occupiers of land frontin« on the Heathcote River between Wilson's road and the footbridge. The following correspondence was read and dealt with:—Colonial Secretary, forwarding Gazette of the 18th December last, containing notice of By-law passed by the Board, prohibiting barbed-wire fences alongside of roads, Co come in force on Ist January, 1891. Received. Messrs Walker and Co., re water supply to Heathcote Valley. Received. In reply to a member, the Clerk stated that the estimated cose, as supplied by Mr Wiffen on behalf of the Committee, was for pipes and laying i>457; that the rates at present levied ou the portion proposed to be benefltted was £53 Is 7d t that as there were less than 100 ratepayers interested the loan could be got without a poll being taken. A letter was sent by the Board to the Lyttelton Borough Council on-the 12th ult., asking on what terms they could supply, the Valley with water, but no reply had as yet been received. _The Board regretted they were unable to do anything further in the matter till,they had a reply front the Ly teltbn*Borough Council. Mr J. A Beattie, stating that,Mr G. Dake would hold the Board responsible for any damage he may sustain from yarrow getting on his land from the road. Received. Accounts passed,. £2.o2 4s lOd.
