The attention of the Members and the Seneral Public is called to some of the special features connected with this Society, which is the Oldest Colonia Institution of its kind, having been lestablished in the year 1849 The results of the business for the Forty-first Year, ending 81st December, 689, may be summarised-ae -under :— FD3ST—The humber of the New Policies issued was 11,664. SECOND--TheNew Assurance Business effected was for L8,679,4g9. I THIHD—The New Annual Premium Income amounted to L 121,800, FOURTH—The net increase to the business, after allowing for loss of income from terminated policies, was represented by 7028 Policies, assuring L 2.109.199. "FIFTH—The operations of the year rained the annnal income of the Society from L 1.612,280 to 1_,625,185, an increase in twelve mouths ot L 112.905, SIXTH—The Accumulated Fund was increased durin the year by tbe sum of L742.51L equal to 7 per cent, of the gross premium re. celved. SEVENTH —The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting co L 299.602, irrespective of Bonus .additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143 for an amount of L 438,976, the mor talicy experience being thus extremely favorable. EIGHTH— The receipts from interest and rents were L 516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the elaiuis by L 138.95---2 expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. TENTH—The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was L 426.494, being at the rate of 415 per ceuc. on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the forty-one years of ics existence may be summarised as under :— It has issued 14L907 policies, assuring L 49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives oi deceased members over _4,00u,00Q in satisfaction of death and matured claims. It has divided among the member! cash bonuses aggregating ovei 14,000,000, yielding reversion&rj additions of over _8,000,Q00.
