{PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, January 8. The New Zealand Educational Institute met this morning. A resolution protesting against the action of certain Education Boards, iv interfering with the liberty of the teachers in political affairs, was discussed briefly and defeated by 20 against 8. It was agreed to recommend the establishment of a Court of Appeal for teachers, to consist of the Minister for Education, the Inspector-General and one teacher; also that agriculture be made an alternate subject in examination.
The members of the Council left for Lake Takapuna this afternoon for their annual picnic. The Council of .the Educational Institute has resolved to request the Minister of Education to take steps for the formation of a fund to provide pensions or retiring allowances for teachers, and to urge upon the Senate of the New Zealand University the justice of allowing bono fide teachers of five years standing holding Class D certificates to sit for degrees in art on payment of examination fees.
