The ordinary monthly meeting of thlt Boad Board was held at the office, Yald hurst, on Monday, the sth met. Fre«ettt —Messrs Carpenter (Chairman), Bailey, Taylor, and Gunn. An apology was received from Mr Marsh for non-attendance on account of harvesting. The Surveyor* report was then read. He had, with Ms Bailey, inspected reserves 2328 and 99!), aa instructed, for the purpose of forming an idea as to their rental value, and they were of opinion that the offer of 2s pcs acre was a fair rental for the former, bet that the latter should command a rental of 4s per annum, as the land was fenced. All the day men, foreman excopted, had been discharged. Work done during the past month had been principally upon the South road, repairing footpath at Templeton, and raking ott stones between reserve 871 and Weedons. Bates collected £4&il7s9d,outstanding£69ls3sd. Besolved that Mr Lane's offer for reserve 2328 bo accepted, and that reserve 899 be offered to him at the rental recommended. All arears of rates to be at once sued for. Other business was transacted, and the pay-sheet amounting to £7415 a9d adopted, when the Board resolved itself into a Board of Health. A petition was read from residents at Upper Riccarton. complaining of the long standing nuisance caused by the discharge of drainage from the parsonage into the storm-water ditch on the South road, which from its close proximity to the school, was likely to endanger the health of the children. The Inspector reported that there was 'undoubtedly cause for complaint, end was therefore Instructed to give the Rev. W. T. P. Winter seven days' notice to find some other mode of disposing of the drainage, as after that date Che Board will not allow the present outlet to be used for the purpose.
