RANGIORA.
A special meeting of this Council was held on Monday evening to consider the damage done to Maria Andrews Park and other business. There were present} —The Mayor (Mr E. R. Good), Crs. Blackett, banson, Cone, Manning, Ivory, Wright, Keir and Jennings. An apology was made for Cr. Stephens' absence. A letter was read from Mr J. M. Watt, on behalf of the Christchurch Freezing Company, asking if the Council would allow Mr Oaborne to sink an artesian well for the Company before continuing the jubilee well at Ranglora. After some discussion it was decided to agree to the request on certain conditions. The mayor referred to the damage done to Maria Andrews' Park, and eaid that there was no doubt but that the fire had been caused'by a spark from the railway engine, and he mentioned evidence that he had collected. It was decided that a Committee be appointed, consisting of the Mayor, Crs. Blackett, Ivory, and Manning, to estimate the damage done, and make a claim on the Railway Department for the same. The Council they adjourned
