DEVICES OF LIBERALISM.
to thb kdttor of the press. Sib,—ln view of recent events here, the following extract from an article in a June magaxlne by no less an authority than Mr H. H. Champion is worthy of a place in your columns :— " The labor party are compelled to side with one or other ot the two great factions. This being so, it is not unnatural that they should side with the party which has * freedom' for ever on its lips, and which has undoubtedly succeeded la inducing large numbers of the working classes to believe that * Codlln's the friend, not Short.' The superstition that 4 the great Liberal party is the real and only •iend of the working man has so much commercial value as an electioneering advertisement that it is not surprising that it pays that party and its henchmen to spare no trouble or expense to maintain it."--I am, &c, Crux*
