HAWKE'S BAY NOTES.
[FROH Otm! CORRESPONDENT. 1 •Mr Evett,as usaal.was a day behind with the Weights for the Boxins Day Meeting, for Which you will have acceptances this week. ■' Several of the candidates engaged have gone wrong, , dad others have been taken to Auckland. Whisper was made favourite for the principal event, and Cynisca for the short race, but the former has been withdrawn.. Mr Evett thinks Aronoel a bettor mare than Whisper, as slie had 51b tho worse of the weights in the , weight-for-age scale, and had 41b over and Whisper lib under, and Aronoel and Cynlsea were put together on equal terms. As Waterfall Iβ away, and Darn* • ley laid us>, Tauraekaittt looks best for the Hurdles. - The two-year-old handicap was a queer mixture altogether. Rosefeldt was in about her place with 9st 41b, but the Albany—Speargrassicolt Prairie Grass, was not fairly treated with several others atßst7lb. Erina, another one that has not started, has 7st, *r 211b less, and neither have yet started, and they are about equal as to breeding. Sabra (3st) has no show, neither has Free Lance {Sat 61b). Thane <7st lfflb) is fairly well in, -out for Hi Kiraana being below her, for he started last spring when nob fit, and beat her easily, running a pjodd second, and hie-parcy " cracked " that he never bad a gallop. Creeper (7sb 101b) is a nice little animal, but does not show any form, yet I like Hi Kimana, Krina and Creeper in the order named. ■ ■ > .-■■■■ ■ ' •"
. Another bad handicap is the settler (or horses thac have not won £40. Pescador, who has. run six, races in hack company With never above 7ts, and then could not win, is asked to carry Bst7lb,givine weight to fair performers : like Grace Darling, Eief'Kle, Kupenga. I like Grace Darling, Kupeuga, and Kie Kie in order for this race. Ido not want to ran down the handicapped work, but to give my opinion aa to the best and worst treated, and their chances.
Mr Gollan at present has not an oversound lot; five jumpers "are laid up. Violet, Count, Melrose, and Darnley, who would have gone to Auckland bat for EAng wrong; Na Moa was going to Aucknd, but injured herself. Neither she nor Pearl Powder, nor Tirailleur are entered in anything here. Hot weather is being experienced, and the tracks axe very hard ; trainers are grumbling about It, and Jetd'Eau is about knocked oat.
