A panic has taken place on the New York stock exchange and several large failures are announced. Commercial paper has been refused on all sides and an attempt made to rely on currency alone, Government propose to issue twenty million dollars worth of 2 per cent bonds. New York is drawing half a million of gold from the Bank of England, and one million from the Bank of France.
