THE ELECTIONS.

TO THE EDITOR OS* THB PRESS. Sm,—The elections have come and gono, with not a very satisfactory result to New Zealand as a whole, this fair land of oui ■•> ; but the people are greatly to blame themselves for not taking more interest in that which most concerns both themselves anr their children. The greatest drawback from which we suffer is vital Christianity, but what can we expect when our clergy of all denominations—with very few c.x ceptlons—are only third and fourth ratmen, and until the people realise that the public will be sure to suffer, tho greatest talker—-whoever he may be—is listened tc more than good men, who would do most good for New Zealand. Those who de most good to New Zealand are the best friends of the working men, as well as others; and let mc here remark how few are not working men. The man who panders to the working; man, and professes to bo their friend, Is simply aiming at gaining his own ends and not theirs. I am surprised to notice how easily the working men are led by emptyheaded talkers. They should consider their own welfare as well as that of their children in this land where everyone by industry and perseverance can improve both his own and his children's position. It Is time that the churches should wake up and secure able men in order to cope with infidelity and other evils with which New Zealand has to contend, for it has now come to this—whether New Zealand is to be ruled by Christianity or infir deli ty.—Yours, &&, Observer.
