THE FIRE IN SYDNEY.

IMMENSE DESTRUCTION OF

KEROSENE.

< StDNfiY, December 3, From the outset it was seen that there was no chance of saving the kerosene bond, whetfe the fire originated, and the efforts of the fire brigades were consequently directed in saving the adjoining property. The heat waa so intense that, the firemen had to erect a shield to work behind) but in spite of this protection, several of the men were burnt about the hands sad faces. The shed in which the kerosene waa stored was" 150 ft by 40ft. The night was eidni, and the flames mounted high in the air, brilliantly illuminating the whole of the city. Gibbs, Bright and Co.'a loss Is now estimated at £30,000. The building and wharves destroyed were folly covered by insurance, bat it is not jet known whether the kerosene was insured.

The origin of the fire, wbieh is still burning, is still a mystery. In consequence of the loss of this large stook, the price of kerosene haaffi&en l|d per gallon.
