THE " LYTTELTON RIMES" POLITICAL ASSOCIATION.
..:.,. TO THE EDITOR. OF THE PBEBS. ■ Sus,-r-As!One f of those who was at the public meeting held some otoliths ago for the purpose offdrming a People's Political Association (though not able to be present at' subsequent meetings)* I hare watched with some interest the career of the Association, It has turnedigut pretty much as I anticipated. As will Be remembered, the first meeting was a fiasco.,. Two parties were present—f&ose who 1 desired ■„-■ to see working men returned to Pariiameßfc,End those who intended to run the Association in, the interest of the so-called liberal party,/ or to be more concise Messrs Beeves and PercevaL JSeveraL employees ol the Lyt* MtmJSme? of the latfce? sectipu, and as results snow they have beacen the friends of tbe worklug men candidates but ol the We I find, therefore, that their candidates were compelled to withdraw and seek • other fields, and that chief among those who manage the Association i are several employees of the Lyttelion j Times Company. Is it not fair to < therefore, that this Association has for its chief object the securing of the return of Mr W. P. Beeves, and its secondary consideration the interests of- j the labor party! If not, why were the candidates put forward .by the' people ousted by <the Association; Harking back to the time, when a third candidate had to be chosen to run along with ; Messrs' Beeves and Perceval, let mc point | out what happened. It is . well I &aow& that Mr B. M. Taylor intended to stand for Peoples'PoUtical Association, MrW.P. Beeres, or the Lyttelton Times being against him cot- ! withstanding. After openly stating his intention not.to associate himself wish Mr B. M. Taylor, bufc to endeavor, to get one of two gentlemen to stand, Mr : Reeves had to bow, to the mighty denunciator of the libsentee, and rather than fece Ms opposition invited him to form, one of the three. I would asfe working nten in the face of such proceedings, to eon* sider whether the Lytte&an, THttus PoUticai Association (for it ia not by any means representative of the people) is really working in their interests, and whether they, would ba justified in giving suppprfi to its nominees, as they are asked tojgo. .
