MR RHODES AT HEATHCOTE VALLEY.
I Mr R, H. Rhodes addressed the electors last nl&ha at tbe Valla; Schoolroom, when there was a very lairgt attendance, the room being Mcd to overflowing. Mr Wlffin was voted to the chair. Mr Rhodes addressed the meeting prac* tically on the same line* as bis Sunnier address, and was frequently applauded. At the conclusion of his address Mr Rhodes was loudly applauded. In answer to questions, Mr Rhodis said he would not support Mr Ballance _ scheme for raising tho exemption under the property tax from £oGO to £2000. He was in favor of the franchise being extended to wo3_en. He was not In favor ol an elective Upper House, aa tbe Lower House could practically control the Upper House. He would be in favor of a tax on bachelors. after a certain age. (Laughter and applause.) He had always looked upon eight hotxra as a fair days work, and ho would support It where practicable. With regard to the dismissed railway servants he thought they should have a fair ahow for reinstatement. Where hotels were pro» perly conducted he could not see why licenses, should be taken away without compensation. Mr IdAßTiKDAXtEmoved—"That a very hearby vote of thanks be accorded to Ms B. _£. Khodes for hia very able address,** Mr Boston seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously amidst load ap/jlause.
