Shortly after twelve o'clock yesterday a fire brofceoutiu the workshop of Messrs Harrop and Wigs;, cabinetmakers and Upholsterers, Queen street, off Lichfleld Street East.. All the hands were away at luncheon at the time, except one apprentice,' who was taking his meal in one of the back-rooms Jdownataire. The flre was discovered by a neighbor, who caw smoke issuing from one of the dpstairs windows, the front portion of the' shop beingof two storeys with a lean-to at the rear. The alarm was given, and tools, benches, See., were removed from below. In the meantime the fire brigade arrived,; and the two chemical engines at once got to work and confined the" flre to the top story of the building. The Deluge and; Extinguisher steam engines were stationed at the tank at the corner of Barbadoes and Cashel streets, bat once it was seen that the Sire was mastered the former engine was withdrawn. The fire is supposed to have originated in some >fisx stored on the upper floor. One of the hands, named McDonald, was doing upholsfcerfng workup to twelve o'clock oil this floor, but did not use a fire or smoke Ms pipe. The building is insured in the Sooth British office for £120, but there was no insurance on the tools or stock. The building was worth considerably more' than, the amount of insurance, and as the upper floor and roof will require to be replaced the damage will amount to be upwards of j£loo. There was a suite of furaiture and other stock on the upper floor which was alao burned. The furniture and effects were taken out of Mrs' Leslie's house adjoining, but there was. fortunately no danger from the fixe.

DDKEDIN, November 24. A. nine-roomed house at Mornington, owned by Sergeant-Magor Bevin, and occupied by Mr Kracse, a despatch clerk in the Telegraph Department, was burned down early this mozniog. The premises were, insured in the Equitable for £400, and the furniture in fcbe National for JB3GO. The fire was caused by the explosion of & defecSLve lamp.
