RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL
A The monthly meeting of this Council was held on Friday evening. There were pr*aent-*-THe Mayor (Mr E. R. Good), Cra. Sanson.; Cone, Stephens, Manning, ivory, Wright,:, and leaning*-, The following letters wereirread*—From Mr R. M. Wright, Secretary to the Water-race Board, inviting tbe Council to join In the Erellmlnary steps to carry out a scheme, referred until next meeting for further consideration. From North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, asking the Council to appoint some one to represent the Council at the meetings for the election of members for the two Boards on the 26th inst. Cr. Blackett was appointed to represent the Council. The Auditor-General wrote, stating that the half-yearly accounts had been certified as correct. Mr J. P. Thompson wrote, asking that Mr A. Thompson's name should be' placed on the roll for his property. Granted. Messrs J. Anderson and Son wrote, stating price of lamp posts and lamps.' The Works' Committee reported that the kerbing and channelling In Victoria street was nearly finished, and the asphalting would then be begun. The pipes across Alfred street were found to be rotten and a small concrete culvert had been put in their places. The water in the wells being high just now the work of putting down another fire well in King street had been postponed. The report was adopted. The Fire Brigade I Committee brought up a lengthy report. It recommended that the Mandeville and Rangiora Road Board be asked to conI tribute towards the cost of maintaining the Brigade on condition the ' engines attended fires outside the Borough (2) that a spare set of tubes for the engine be procured; (3) that the by-law re chimneys on fire be enforced; (4) the Council's horse to bring the steam fire-engine from fires when required; (5) that temporary provision be made in the gully in King street to supply engine with water if required ; (o) that new lire wells be put down in King street, Albert street, and Edward street. After discussing the clauses seriatim, the report was adopted with a few slight amendments. The surveyor's report stated that the daymen had been engaged in various works, which were enumerated. The accounts for the past half-year had been audited and certified to as correct. It is time to advertise for a supply of dog collars. The amount of rates collected for the present year is _£24113s 9d, and about £340 remains still due. The financial statement showed that 5-16 lis Bdhad been received during the month. The credit balance at the Bank was -3129 15s od. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £02 os 4d. Cr. Jennings moved—" That the Telegraph Department be written to asking that a telephone wire be erected to Kanglora In connection with the Exchange in Christchurch." Seconded by Cr. Manni ug. and carried. It was decided to put a small culvert In Victoria street, opposite Albert street. The attention of the Works' Committee was drawn to several small works, ! and the meeting terminated with the (usual vote of thanks to the Mayor.
