TRADES AND LABOR COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of the Canterbury Trades 1 and Labor Council was held on Saturday evening at the Trades Hall: Mr ■P. S. Parker, the President, in the chair. A quantity of correspondence was considered and dealt with. It was resolved to vote £1 10~~ each to the boiler makers who had gone out on strike on the question of not working with non-Unionists, but the Council did not endorse their action. The matter of granting further assistance to those bookbinders who had come out from Whitcombe and Tombs' establishment was referred to a Committee. It was decided to grant relief to two cases in which the Council considered the parties were entitled to it. Some considerable time was occupied in discussing questions of finance. The halfyearly balance-sheet and Auditors' report • were received and adopted. The matter of issuing a political manifesto was left in -the hands of the Parliamentary Committee. A deputation was appointed to wait on Mr Blake, a candidate for the Avon, to ascertain his views more particularly. It was resolved that the last report of the National Council Committee be Sent to the various Trades and Labor Councils. The Free Labor Association has decided that no member of a Union affiliated to the Maritime Council shall be admitted until free from such Union for six months. WELLINGTON, November 18. -At a meeting of the Typographical Society last night it was resolved that the Wellington branch, to alleviate the distress occasioned by the late strike, authorise their Board to strike a levy of not more than 2s 6d per week upon all members in full work, the Board to have the option of extending it to those In precarious employment, and also of reducing or discontinuing the levy, according to the reports of their delegates on tbe Trade and Labor Council. The establishment of a National Marine Council for New Zealand was deferred for six months.
