CLUB RACES ON THE ESTUARY.^ On Saturday afternoon the first Clot races of the season were decided on the Estuary at Sumner. The weatherwas a trifieoold and the keen Northeast Wind made things unpleasant for both spectators and rowers. The course which had been marked off extended from a little beyond the Fishermen's huts to a flag placed iv front of Mr Monck's house, and as both wind and tide were against the rowers it was generally voted a very lorn** mile. Without doubt the most interesting races were the two Four Oars, both of which were fought out to the finish, aud the wins for both Foster and Daly were, very popular. Tho Pair Oar races on the other hand were generally ol an uninteresting nature, and several fouls that occurred robbed tho A.R.C races Of most of their interest. A word of praise ia due to Mr J. O. Jones, who fulfilled the arduous task of starter with the greatest satisfaction to everyone, Proceeding? started with the C.R.C. Trial Pairs. ; First heat. The boats were level for the first half mile, when Stokes started to forge ahead, and gradually increasing his lead, won by two leugths. W&tt, who lost several lengths at the start, made up his ground in fair style, and finished a good second. Owing to a misunderstanding as to the flulshing post, the two tlrst crews stopped before the gun went off, and thus allowed Barns to secure first honors. U.R.C. Trial Pairs (No. 2). Couzins, who had the inside running, was quickest away, and had establtsheda length s lead by the time the Fishermen's was reached. From this out tho raca Was never iv doubt, for although Mills kept on gamely, he was unable to reduce the gap, and Couzins won somewhat* easily by three lengths. The winners were the lightest crew in the race, and their victory was very popular. A.R.C. Club Pairs. First Heat. Powell and Godfrey ... ... „_ J Kerridge and Hobbs \... ... 7., Ji Skinner and Griffin, and Glllighan aad A Hobbs also went to the post. Godfrey and F. Hobbs soon left the other crews behind, but tha former seemed to have matters all his own W*_r, and won easily by several lengths. C.R.O. Trial Pairs. . * Second Heat.
