RIFLE SHOOTING.
ALPHA CLUB v NEW SOUTH \ WALES TEAMS. " i On Saturday the Alpha Martini-Henry 'Rifle Club (after a poatponcment) fired Iα a triangular match arranged ia Sydney byMr.W. S. King, the ex-captain of the Club. The opposing teams were the Richmond and Camden Rifles (New South Wales), who shot on Saturday, October 25th, and their scores 'wiEl arrive in due time by post. Mr King fired in Sydney for the Club, and consequently only nine men were pub in the field here. The weather on Saturday was unfavorable. A strong wind prevailed from the right rear while two ranges were being shot, and when the last distance was reached the wind changed, and blew down the range with great force, being slightly from the lefic rear, and then gradually steadied down, and went back to it 3 old quarter. Thelight and elevation was changeable, and that will account for the falling off ia the scores at the 600 yards range, ©speciality o£ those who were the first to fire under the changed conditions, • otherwise there would, no doubt, have been a heavy, score for 'the Club's opponents to meet. In cosseqaence ol the gale blowing across the range at the time the shooting was not so good ■as usual. The following were the highest scorers: — Lieut. Torlesse 66, Corporal Golliver 48, Sergeant £. d'Auvergne 43, Sergeant.B. d'Auvergne 42.
The Kowai Rifle Club opened their new range on Saturday afternoon with one of their monthly competitions. The arrange - meats worked satisfactorily tliroagbout, though a rather squally wind and chaageable light somewhat militated against the shooting. The conditions were—seren. shots each, at 200, 500, and 600 yards,, two. sightera, Wimbledon targets find scoring. A large number of members were present. The following are the prize-taKers: —Mr P. Beker, 84; Mr J. O. JosUng, SO; Mr W, Hunter, 78. The first day's shooting; of the Little River Rifle Club for some valuable prizes recently presented to this Club took place at the Library Valley Raose on Saturday, November Ist. The conditions were seven shots at 200, 300, and 500 yards. Twentyfive members of the Club competed. The weather was very unfavorable for rifle shooting consequently the scoring was nos np to the average. The following are the •scores made by the six leading competitors with the handicaps addid:—Mr Qoealy (@) 70, Mr H. Wheeler (3) 67, Mr 0. Milin (15) 67, Mr J. Reynolds (8) 63, Mr J. J.
