, WESTPORT, November 1. A lad named Duucan was crushed to death at Denniston to-day. He was getting coal from an old outcrop, when an immense stone fell, crushing his leg and the lower part or his body. Death ensued in a few minutes. . .

Tremendous rain fell last night and yesterday- afternoon. The river is in strong fresh now. ' The Coal Commission is still sitting, taking a great deal of evidence, some extending back to the very early days of ! the Br turner mine, when the coal was [brought down the river in barges.
