An ordinary monthly meeting of Society tor Prevention ot Cruelty tet Animals was held at the City Council Chambers at noon yesterday, whan t\\&H were present—His worship e» Mayor (ia the chair), Messrs C. Louissoa, 3. H, Parker, G. T. Booth, J. O. Prudhoe, Ben Kabbt Chadowski, and Mr A, W. Smith, assistant Secretary and Inspector. An apology waa received Cor the abseaca of Mr M. Murphy. The report was adopted. The Inspector reported re a case of.a cow alleged to have bean lying in, a bog sfi Ohoka for a week, Constable-Burke, of Kaiapoi, was Informed, sad he - reported that the cow was lying in a dry 'dlten, mid. was unable to rise weakness, bub she was regularly fed. The covsf was subsequently destroyed, Tim esses of a carrier working his liorae while Buffering from wounds, of 6 mas habitually ill treating his florae, and of a large cargo of ehoep having been brought over from the Chatham Island oh the deck of the Kaltu, were also reported upon. Thesheep were overcrowded, and the Inspector was of opinion that sheep should not be allowed to be crowded om deep-sea vessels in large numbers at this tlmo pi the year, in consequence of the prevalence oil gules. It was renolved to write to-the'agents of the vessel oa the subject, The Impector also reported upon the case of'alleged cruelty to cattle by members of the Wild West Show. It was ehown that several cattle had had their horns broken oft" accidentally. Mr Wlrth had promised that care anould be taken to preves& unnecessary cruelty., The Inspectors action Iα fclie matter, and alao with regard to the recommendations of the Ladies* Committee was approved.
