RANGIORABOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Friday evening. _ There were present—The Mayor (Mr E. R. Good), and Crs Blackett, Sansom, Cone, Stephens, Manning, Ivory; and Jennings. An apology was made for the absence of Cr. Lnxton. A letter was read from Mr J. B. Gresson oh behalf of Mr C. J. Luxton stating that he held the Council liable for any damage done by soil remaining along the drain through his section causing an obstruction to the drainage of his land. Ordered to be acknowledged. Mr A. Ulrich, asking the Council to contribute towards the cost of a live fence between his land and the Council's property. It was decided to offer him 10s. A communication was received from the Secretary qt the Fire Insurance Association stating that the Association could not give a grant In aid of fire wells at Rangiora. The Works Committee reported that the floating of the footpaths was being done, and arrangements had been made with the contractor to repair the paths where necessary. A small drain in Green street had been cleaned out. A ponndkeeper has been appointed temporarily. A tender had been accepted for screening the shingle at the pit. The report was adopted. The Surveyor's report stated that the day men had been employed in trimming fences on the drains, cartingscreeningson to paths,and other work. The work of delivering the rate notices had been commenced. Ibis report waaapproved. The financial statement showed that the receipts for the month have been £1614s 2d; debit balance at Bant £2313s Id. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to __» los 4d. Four tenders were omened for the supply of #1 that ot Mr Parrott accepted at lis lid per case. The Mayor stated that the Inspector of Slaughter-houses had laid informations against two butchers for breaches of the Act, and had asked the assistance of the borough solicitor in conducting the cases, which he (the Mayor) had granted. The action of the Mayor was approved. Several works requiring attention were ordered to be seen to, and the Works Committee was requested to report on the state of several streets. Cr. Jennings said that the Chief Postmaster had given permission for the Fire Brigade's barometer to be hung in the lobby of the post office. Cr, Cone stated that in consequence of the action taken by the Inspector of Slangbterhouses in summoning him he intended to resign his seat on the Council. A vote of thanks to the Mayor concluded the meeting.
