BACON CURING.
PROPOSED COMPANY AT RANGIORA, A public meeting attended by about fifty persons was held in the Road Board office, Runglora, on Thursday afternoon, to consider the proposals for forming a Bacon Curing Company; Mr G. Cone was in the chair. The Chairman said that about a fortnight ago borne of the farmers had spoken to him respecting the sale of their pigs for the season, wishing to know what would be dove with their surplue stock. This induced him to visit the bacon factors, and he must say he met with a poor reception. They told him they expected to gat ail the pigs at their own prices, as they were bound to come in, and already they were almost swamped with offers. A considerable amount of information had come into his possession which he would be prepared to lay before any Committee or Company that might be started. He advised the floating of a Company under the general name of northern, so as to avoid any local jealousies. Relative to the assistance to be given to a proposed curiug factory, Che Chairman aliuUed to the importance of only sending in good meat in order to avoid "taints," upon which very often there was a large loss. A former trial of bacon curing at liangiora was attended with ' good success, and he did not see why under a new brand they should not take a premier position in the markets.
