So far the Commis-ioners b*vaot unearthed anything approacbing sweating bathe usually accepted meanin-;, but their inquiries have gone, if any thin-;, to prove a contrary state of things. What complaints they have received have been rather in the nature of trade grievances, Before the Sweating Commission an extras- driver detailed the long hours which they had to wors. He explained that th« men never knew when they were done, a* after completing the ordinary day's work of about twelve hours they might have to take out a '* special" without extra pay. The last three days he was in the service he worked fifteen, sixteen and seventeen hours. Hie wages were M ."* month, and conductors who worked same hours _5 and j£o per month- The latter including commission. No overtime was paid. . He considered the -aaaage* ment at Wellington compared unfavorably with that of the Dunedin trams. !
