At the meeting of the City Council this evening, the following resolution was carried without discussion, and a copy will be forwarded to the Colonial Secretary:--" That the Council is of opinion that the advantage (if any) to be obtained from bringing the Contagious Diseases Act into force locally in Wellington is not commons-rate with the cost, and further i_ of opinion that to do much practical good the operation of such an act 'should be general throughout the colony.*' The Finance Committee's report, which . was adopted, shows the estimated receipts for the current year on general accounts to be -___,__., and after providing for fixed items of expenditure, _37860 is left for street works and drainage. Of this amount _26820 is apportioned to streets, and the balance to drainage. The estimated receipts on waterworks account __e___.,o76. After providing for interest sad working expense., there will be a . balance of ____70 available for providing additio-U-i dams at Wainui. The rates for current year will be a general rate of Is in the £, water rate of 5 per cent, on houses. receiving water, 2\ per cent, on the rateable value of stores, <_..; a special rata for Interest on the City Improvement Loan of §d in the M, hospital and charitable aid •rate 3d in the __, The salary of the Town Clerk was increased from _S4OO to _3_50.
