GROCERS & STOREKEEPERS, ASSOCIATION.
The first annual meeting was held at the Rooms of the Association, 220 Cashel street, yesterday afternoon. Mr J. H. Gilchrist, President, was in the chair, and & Urge attendance of members. The annual report was read by the Chairman, which detailed the work during the year. A weekly list of prices for dairy produce was agreed upon by the Committee, and upon this the highest price to be given for butter, eggs, ana cheese was embodied in a circular, which was posted the same evening to • each member of the Association. There were, it was stated, eightyseven members belonging to the Association. • ■■ - _, _ The Chairman moved, and Mr J. H. Hopkins seconded—" That the report and balance-sheet as read be adopted," which was carried unanimously. Mr J. Munnings moved, and Mr E. Godfrey seconded, a cordial vote of thanks to the officers and Committee for their valuable services during the year. The following were appointed the officers: —Committee for the ensuing year, Mr J. E Gilchrist (President), Mr T. Taylor (Vice-Preeident), Committee — Messrs T. Kincaid, J. H. Hookins, W". Thomson, H. H. Baddon, J. Forbes, T. M'Dowell, W. Fraser, J. Laurenson, J. Mannings, and G. A* Lindemann. The question of early closing: was fretely discussed in all its bearings. Bvenfeuauy, on the resolution of Br T. Kincaid, seconded by Mr W. Thomson; ifc was nnanimouely resolved—" That the members of the Canterbury Grocers* Association agree to dose their respective places of business at six o clock every day, including Saturdays, commencine on May Ist. , * A vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings.
