KAIAPOI BOROUGH SCHOOL.
. The monthly meeting was held on Monday evening. Present — Messrs Moore (Chairman), Pashby, Uiatt, Wliitehead, »p wler, and McS weeney. Letters were .read—From Board of Education, notifying candidates for election, intimating resignation of Mr Bean, as assistant master; pointing out that the repairs fund would not admit of the Board, making repairs to gymnastic apparatus, and if such repairs could not be'met from the incidental funds of schools the apparatus must not be used ; also drawing attention that at the annual meetiug in every case of election of Committee a ballot must be taken, even if, the number of candidates nominated corresponded exactly with the number, to be elected. From Prs. -T. A. Murray and H. Compton Parsons, relative to the drinking water supplied In the tanks. Both gentlemen considered the water free from anything; deleterious to health, but the tanks might be more frequently emptied, . the surplus to be used in Hushing the outofflces. From Messrs AllwrigUt, Joyce, H. Bojd for Mr Good, and Smith, for the patronage of the Committee for the Board of Education. From Head Master, reporting the number of scholars on roll 518, average attendance 440, the latter being affected by the Influenza epidemic; also, applying for certain requisites, \ and recommending Mr C W. Garrard , tor appointment as assistant master, he I having proved a capable, hard working ! teacher, exercising great sympathy with the children in and out of school. Mr I Bean's resignation was accepted with exI pressions.! of regret, he having become ! universally popular as a teacher, as well as taking an interest in the boys' outdoor games. The Chairman reported he -had telegraphed to the Board, recommending Mr Giirrard's appointment. It was resolved this be approved, and the Board asked to fill the vacancy caused by this teacher's promotion, it was resolved that potato harvest holidays take place for three weeks, from April 25th. The balance in hand was £1210s. Accounts, £9 6s 66% were passed for payment. Votes of thanks were accorded to the medical gentlemen for their reports. On the motion of Mr Pashby, the Chairman and the mover were appointed to interview the Board of: Education in reference to the sinking of an artesian well in the school ground to the lower strata, as recommended by Dr. Parsons. The Committee ttran adjourned.
