Mr Carew to-day condemned some milk, seized by the Inspector of Nuisances,; which came from the dairy of Blair, North, east Valley, He said it had been proved that the premises were in a filthy state,: and that the bulk.of the fever cases known in Dunedin were cases in which the persons had derived their milk supply from Blair.. Dr Ogston had stated that the milk from the dairy would not be fit for food, even without the presence of typhoid at all, and an order would be made condemning the milk and ordering it to be destroyed.

DUNEDIN, April 14. In a case heard before the Resident Magistrate this afternoon, in which Thomas Blair, milkman, of North-east Valley, was convicted for vending unsound milk, counsel for the Board of Health jiaid that grounds on which his Worship was asked to condemn, the milk were exceedingly strong, and anything short of condemnation' of the milk would leave it a -menace to human life. Medical men would tell the Court that typhoid was in Dunedin, and that it could be conveyed by impure milk; and it would be shown that the premises from which the milk came were in an utterly foul and filthy condition, so utterly foul and filthy that'iaonymilk coming from there must be eminently dangerous to human life. Dr. Teevan gave evidence that he : knew of sis cases of typhoid fever an Dunedin in. six different houses. He had made enquiries as to how the disease was communicated, and Came to the conclusion that the source of the contagion was impure milk. In five out of the six cases the milk was supplied from the defendant's premises. Evidence was given that the deary was utterly neglected, and unnecessarily filthy; while Dr. Ogston, who has had a special training. in medicial science, stated that the milk from such premises would not be fit for food even without the presence of typhoid.
