The deacons of the Tabernacle Have resolved to appoint a deputation to wait upon Pastor Birch 'with the 6f discuflsirig the present situation and bringing ftbout a more satisfactory state of relations between himself and his people than that existing since the " holiness meeting. In a letter to the Herald on the question of land settlement, Sir George Wuitutors suggests a scheme under Which the Government should purchase as much native land as can be obtained, and vest it in the various Land Boards under a special law, by which ah appreciable proportion of all the proceeds of such land should be paid into a special account, to be ttied only in further Government purchases or in repayment of the original capital, if borrowed.
Today Sir , George Grey and Mr Napier were to haVe waited npon the Hon. E. Mitchelaon in relation to the case of some Taupu homestead settlers who are unable to get Crown titles, owing to the goldfield regulations and mining. Owing, however, to the indisposition of Sir <*.
