fra__B association tz--;gb---s.l AUCKLAND, Pebrnaryi. The newly-formed Tailoressea and Pressers* Union held a meeting to-night, when a Committee was formed to draw up rules, &c. Some interesting statements were made by those present during the meeting.' One told of an employer who had made a suit of clothes for a customer at a cost of £& 10s, bat which, calculating the value of tweed used, and the low price given for labor, actually cost the tailor only jEI 17s 6d, thereby giving him a profit of £2 1_3 6d. Large numbers of person became members, and also joined the Knights of Labor Society. . Informatioas are to be lodged by Ranger Garsed, of Puhipuhi, against four persons for trespass on the field. These have been selected as test cases.
The Maoris who visited Auckland for the jubilee returned to the Waikato to-day. The annual meeting of the Harbor Board to-day had to be adjourned for a second time, the accounts not having yet been , returned from Wellington. The , Kaihu Valley Bailway Commission commenced their sittings to-day. They intend to proceed to Kaihu to inspect the railway and take evidence.
WELLINGTON, February 4. The Town Clerk to-day sent a cable message to the Melbourne and Sydney Corporations., inquiring whether either of those municipalities has an expert who is giving special advice on the subject of drainage. The object is to secure the services of such an authority, if one is to to be found.
The attempt to float the barque Willie McLaren has been abandoned, and it is understood that those interested in the patent used in connection with her intend having a try to raise the steamer Koranui, wrecked- Hear the French Paes some months ago. TBIAETJ, Februarys Mr K. Turnbull, M.H.K., was waited on to-day by Major Boss, the ex-Mayor Mr Jonas, and Mr W. Evans, and presented with asubstantial parse of sovereigns, subscribed by his .constituents and other residents in Timaru, as a practical expression of sympathy in hie long and painful illness. Mr Turnbull is „still improving, but his progress is very slow. DUNEDIN, February 4, Three boys, caught stealing at the Exhibition, having made their way over the fence shortly after 10, appeared before the Court to-day, and were convicted and discharged, the Bench threatening future offenders with a flogging. At the sitting of the Board of Property Tax Eeviewers, the appeal of the Shotover Big Beach Company (Sew Hoy), to have the assessment reduced to .£SO per share was sustained.
In Neill and Company v Shaw, SavillAlbion Company, Mr Justice Williams upheld the Magistrate's decision that there was' n<s evidence against defendants that the goods shipped for London in New York' were shipped at the latter place in good order and condition.
INVERCAKGrILL, February 4. John Hunter was killed by a fall of earth in Paddy s Alley, Nbkomai goldfield, this afternoon. He was married, and leaves a widow and two children.
