CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR ON A MAIL STEAMER.
On the last voyage of the New Zealand } -Shipping Company's Royal Mail steamer ■Rimtaaß.trom London, Christmas and -Uae New Xear seem to have been honored right royally, judging from the following < report, which we take from the Otago . Daily Times?—On Christmas Cay the children were all on tip-toe of expectation, - t having been told of a Christmas tree - 'which was to be given that evening. All ' the saloon passengers spent their short stay on snore at Capetown in making purchases for the tree, and so generously had I tfiey done so that there were two presents ' and a packet of sweets for each child. After the Christmas tree they had snap- ] draxon, which was a surprise they had i not anticipated. If nobody else remembers the Christmas of ISS9, there is little doubt bat what the children will do so. After the children's entertainment a 4 dance was given on the saloon deck, | thus making a pleasant ending to the day. On New Xear's Eve a theatrical ' entertainment, entitled "Mj Turn Next," -\ was given, after which the saloon was ! cleared and the old year danced oat.
