AVON ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held on the 14th in.it. Present—Messrs Blake (Chairman), Cochrane, Homer, King and Patterson. The Surveyor's report was read and considered. Resolved — That further arrangements be made with Mr McLean in reference to landing stage at New Brighton. That the Surveyor see Mr Rountree, re erection of fence on Hill's road; also, to wait on Mr Baynes, relative to forming street at New Brighton. Several gorse and other notices were ordered to be served. Messrs Minchin, Hewer, Bassett, and Joseph waited on the Board, requesting stone bridge to be built over the Dudley creek at its junction with the River Avon. The deputation thought that portion of the cost could be raised amongst those interested. The Surveyor was instructed to prepare an estimate of the work, and report at the next meeting. The Board was further interviewed by Messrs Spencer, Fox, and Sanford, who required some improvements to the Lower Scyx road, offering contributions towards the work, and ultimately promised to make some decided proposal before the next meeting of the Board. Mr Roberts saw the Board in reference to payment of rates. Correspondence was read—From the Chrlstchurch Drainage Board, asking the Board to undertake the cleansing of the sumps in the Avon district. The letter received, inquiries to be made. From the Land Registrar, re conveyance of apiece of land as anew road to the Styx. The Clerk to arrange. From Mr Boob, requesting that the handrails on the Horeeshoe Lake bridge may be temporarily removed for the purpose of taking a house over fon its way to New Brighton. The Clerk to reply that the Board could not comply with the request. From Mr A. Brookman, re ranger, to stand over for the present. From the Selwyn County Council, re small birds nuisance, information to be forwarded. From the same, stating that the sum of £50 had been granted towards the cost of Improving the formation of the Canal Reserve road. Letter received. Messrs Blake and King, agreeing to inspect the road with the Surveyor and report to the next meeting. Resolved— That tenders be invited for a supply of clay and metal for the Sea View road, returnable by the 4th prox., and having passed accounts for payment, she meeting terminated.
