' The annual sporte meeting in connection with the Cathedral school took place on the North Park yesterday. The weather was fine and with a cool wind from toe Sooth-west in the earlier part of the day. The wind died away, however, and the afternoon was as pleasant as could be wished. There was a good attendance of spectators, chiefly ladies, who were either parents or friends of the boys. The various events were generally wall eon , * tested, and the masters did all in their power to make the gathering go off successfully. After the last race had been ran the prises were presented by Mrs Jacobs. Mr G. H. Merton, Head Matter of the school, thanked the donors of prises for their kindness and liberality. The Masters' Challenge Cap, for the greatest number of points, was won by F. KntghU The following arCthe results :— High jump, open to whole school (Hon. H. B. Gresson's prise)-F. Knight (4ft tin) 1. W. P. Knight, A. & Gard'uer, and R. Upton tie (4ft 3in) 2. Eleven competed. High jump, open to boys tender thirteen (Mrs Denham's prize)—D. Westenra (3ft llMn) 1, C. Denham (3ft lOJin) 2. Fourteen competed. There was a fine contest between Denham and Westenra, who both jumped well. 100 yards race, open to boys under nine—W. Brown 1. A. C. Fryer 2. Brown won by about a foot. Long jump, open to whole school (Right Rev. the Bishop's prize)—F. Knight (14ft lin) 1, J. Fleming and A. R. Gardiner (I3lt sin) 2. These three boys jumped well. Weston 3; time 13 3-sth sec. Final heat, H. P. Hill 1, C. Denham 2, H. Gresson 3; time 13 sec. Walking Race (one mile) HandicapFirst, Mrs Embling's cup; second, Mrs Denham's prize—R. Upton (scr) 1, A. R. Robinson (10yds) 2, C. OUivier (15yds) & A large field started, but the two first were the only ones really in the race. Upton won by about thirty yards. Robinson walked in splendid style, but Upton had the advantage of him in size and strength. Time 9mm 14 l-sth sec. 220 yards race, open to boys under fourteen (Rev. Canon Cholmondeley's prize)— J. R. Thomas 1, W. J. C. Wilson 2.C. Denham 3. Fifteen started. Time 32 3-sth sec. 440 yards race, open to boys under fourteen (Cathedral choir challenge cup)— J. Fleming 1, W. Westoa 2, W. Klver 3. Fifteen started. Little Weston ran pluckily, and was only passed fifty yards from the tape. Time 72 3-sth sec. Half mile, open to whole school (Ladies challenge cup)—F. Knight 1, R. Upton 2, A. W. Dudley 3. Ten started. Won easily, Dudley a good third. 2min 45 3-Sth sec. 130 yards race, for boys under nine (Mrs Thomas' prize)—A. Fryer 1, W. Brown 2, D. Thomas 3. Nine started. Won easily. Time 23 loth sec. 220 yards race, open to boys under eleven (Mr Blakiston's prize)—S. Frankieh 1, C. R. Black 2, Dodd 3, Time 34 3-sth sec. 440 yds race, open to whole school (Mrs Western's cup)—F. Knight 1, L. C. Stanford 2, A. Gardner 3. After going half the distance Upton, who was holding a good position fell. Kaight won easily. Time 70 2-ssec. Walking race, half mile, open to boys under thirteen (Professor Cook's prize)-— C. Ollivier 1, P. Earle 2, K. OUivier 3. Seventeen started. Time 4min 44 2-osec.
