In the absence of speculation and transactions it is difficult to give reliable quotations for anything, and it will require some valuable discovery to reanimate matters. Many of those who plunged pretty freely while the excitement was on are feelinir the pinch just now, and are compelled to sacrifice stocks in order to carry over; and hence the fall which has taken place in every good line, which ought not to have been affected to the extent they have. In consequence of the stormy weather which prevailed all last week at Waipapa it was not considered advisable to attempt! to carry on dredging in face of the most ruinous interruptions taking place. The returns are therefore only 390z amalgam, obtained in the early part.of the week.
