MINING NEWS.

I [By Telegraph.] i I IFBOM OUR CORRBSPOITDBNT.I ?■■ BEEFTON, October 14. Fiery Cross—l6Soz of amalgam from ninety tons of stone. Inkermau—The mine manager reports: —" The north surface drive has been extended 43ft for the week, making the total distance driven to date 89ft. The stone in tlie face is 2ft vide, showing very good gold in the stopes; 56ft of stoping has been done for the week. The stopes are all looking well for stone. The surface water has been very strong in the mine this week, hence the small amount of stoping done. I have started to cross-cat to the east from the couth level. The con tractors for the shaft are catting out the chamber. There is nothing new to report from the new find on the south lease. At the battery we scraped the top plates today with the following result :—1420z amalgam from fifty-two tons of stone. • he small quantity of quartz raised this week is attributable to so much water having to be bailed. This will give no annoyance when the winding engine is up." Lone Star—The contractors are pushing on with the main level going south, but it will take a couple of months yet to reach, the winze from which the trial crushing of stone was taken. Inglewood— Crushing will not be resumed till the end of the current week. Resolution—The prospector hits crossed some loose quartz which carries nice gold, and in consequence of this the shares are tolerably firm at about Is 6d. With the return of fine weather a slightly better tone is manifest in mining matters, but prices are still depressed, [PBSBS ASSOCIATION TKLSQftAM.] DUNEDIN, October 14. The Island Block Company, near Boxburgh, washed up on Saturday, the result being equal to three grains of gold per cubic yard of (Travel treated. Stormy weather prevented operations at the Waipapa Creek Company's chum last week, and, therefore, only 390z of amalgam were obtained in the early part of the week.
