THE EXHIBITION.

• THE VIOTOBIAN COUBT. [TBOU OX7B CORBBBPOITDKNT.] (BT TSLBOBAPH VBOH THX BLOTP.) MELBOURNE, October 10. By this boat (the Eotomahana) Mr Fletcher, the Superintendent of the Victorian Court at the New Zealand Exhibition, will proceed to JDunedin to assume active duty, and will set to work at once on hi* arrival to decorate and fix up the Victorian Court. By the same steamer the first shipment will be made, which will include a large and weighty consignment of general exhibits. The following report from the Secretary to the Commission was read at its last meeting.—" Since the last meeting of the Commission, in continuation of the series of upcountry visits, the President, accompanied by Mr Fletcher, the Superintendent of the Court, proceeded to Sandhustand Castiemaine. Their visit to both towns was an unqualified success. It was considered that no display of Victorian manufactures would be complete without a collection of ceramic ware. As the leading factory is that of the Bendigo Pottery Company, a special call was made on their works with the result that a fine exhibit was secured. At Casfclemaine the leading local industry of woollen manufacture became the principal object of attention, and a promise was received from the mill owners of a representative show of flannels and blankets. Mr M. Akin, accompanied by the Secretary, again called on the manufacturers of Geelong, and secured, among other promises, an understanding from Messrs Humble and Nicholson to send a splendid collection of agricultural machinery, as well as a compound condensing tandem portable engine, wool presses, &c. The Victorian Wx>llen Mill Company of the same place are exhibitors in considerable quantity of their manufactured goods. The position of the colony is now an assured success. The whole of the space at the disposal of the Commission has been allotted, and in evidence of the general character of the exhibits it may be said that the catalogue include* samples of almost every article manufactured in Victoria. The vignerong have evinced the greatest interest in the undertaking, and the display of the wines of this colony will be absolutely complete. It has been deemed advisable to make special provision till the last moment for the reception of anything possessing exceptional merit or interest, but only to a very limited extent.
