Luke, a young man, pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking into and stealing from a cottage on the Cashmere Estate, a purse contain fag 484 12s, 41b tobacco, and lib tea, the property of James Smith. The accused, 4M September 17th, had broken into the bouse while itaoccupierwas at work. When •mated by Sergt. Stagpoole he admitted the offence, and pointed out the place where lie had thrown the purse. As this was his first offence, he waa remanded till Monday for tbe report of the Probation Officer.

It apywued that the boy was from Ashburton, where he had stolen *7 from hit employer. ■Be then left and came to Cbristchurch, where he got employment with Mr Iweedy. On being arrested, on a warrant from Ashburton, the martingale was found til hie ewag, and he confessed to having stolen it. He was brought up ac Ashbttrton, was convicted on the first-named offence, was committed to Auckland Industrial School, and was on his way up. The Den eh taking into consideration the •ktfnmstances, cautioned him on the present charge and dismissed the case.
