SACRED CONCERT.

The choir of St. Asaph street United Methodist Free Church, assisted by Miss A. S. Taylor, Mrs C. M. Gray, and Mr Poechell, &na others, Rave a sacred concert in the church list evening. The church was full, despite the unfavorable state of the weather. The first part of the programme consisted of Webers Mass in 6, in which the solos were taken by Miss A. S. Taylor (soprano), Mesdames A. Corrick and 0. M. Gray (contraltos), Mr Puschell (tenor), and Mr R. Halley (bass). The solos were sung very nicely, and the choruses were taken with freedom and plenty of spirit. Mr H. M. Johnson sang carefully the aria, " Then shall the righteous shine" (Mendelssohn), and in the number " I will sing of thy power " Mr Martin acquitted himself creditably in the solo. Miss Taylor sang with much taste the air " From mighty Kings" (Handel), her voice being heard to good advantage, and an encore was demanded. Mr Puschell was very successful in the aria "If with all your hearts " (Mendelssohn) and also received an encore. Miss Allen and Mr Paschell took the eoloe nicely in " To Thee, Great Lord " (Rossini), and Mrs A. Corrick sang with feeling and expression the solo "He was despised" (Handel). The duet "Evening" was well sung by Mrs Gray and Mr Puschell, and Miss Scales'sang the solo carefully in the final piece on the programme, 'In the beginning was the world " (Allen). The orchestra performed two selections, " Aye Maria," and the fantasie overture " Invocation to St. Cecile." The choir and orchestra gave evidence of having been carefully trained, and were well up to their work. Mr A. Corrick conducted with efficiency, and Mies Corrick, who was called upon at short notice, gave Ratfaf&etion as organist. The Rev. H. B. Redstone returned thanks to those ladies and gentlemen who had assisted, and specially thanked the choir on behalf of the congregation. The proceeds of the concert were in aid of the debt extinction fund ot the church.
