A DISASTROUS FIRE. i Nbw York, September 18. 1 A Ore occurred yesterday in a large dry goods warehouse at Louisville, Kentucky, by which a million dollars' worth of damage was done. Six firemen perished in the flames. Received September 19th, 4.25 p.m. SUPPOSED LOSS OF A SHIP. Valparaiso, September 18. Fears are entertained for the safety of the ship County of Carnarvon, which left Newcastle for this port on June Ist, and a £63 premium has been paid for re-insurance. The County of Carnarvon is a vessel of 1267 tons, and is under the command of Captain Roberts. Received September 20th, 1.10 a.m. ANTI-SLAVE CONVENTION. London, September 19. , An Anti-Slave Convention between England and Italy lias been concluded, OBITUARY. The Rev. Dr. Somerville, the evangelist, is dead. (The news of Dr. Somerville'e death will be received with great regret. He was a Presbyterian minister, who will be remembered visited the colony some years ago, and conducted very successful missions in most of the leading towns. Hβ took an especial interest in establishing and fostering branches of the Young Men's Christian Association.] |
