SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
EAST CHRISTCHURCH. The East Christchurch District Sc_o# Committee held its usual monthly meting last Thursday evening. Preaent—Slf J. S. Williams (acting Chairman), aaf Messrs Goodman, Parkes, Peppereli, sat Smith. The reading books as received by the Head Master were approved ot faf Phillipstown Visiting Committee report® that Mr Woodford had applied for lea"* to carry a drain from his house into tfif I School drain. The Committee decided i 1 could not give consent, and directed mi Secretary to call the attention of t» 1 Board of Education to the state of tU j drain in question, which was alre&af I rendered offensive by neighbors leading their drains into it. The Swimmlcg Bath Committee brought up their repeat) j which, after slight amendment, was j adopted. It was decided to have ths j bath cleaned out and thrown open to sab- j scrlbers, as from Ist October, single j tickets, 7s 6d; double do, 10s ; and famuj i do, 15s. Ihe Inspectors' reports on tcp main and side school were submitted- j In reference to the former, the Is- I spectors reported very favorably, «*©• j sldering the serious interruption -t_ j work caused by the recent outbreaks*, illness . They singled out for special co* j mendation the work of the fifth, eistp j and seventh standards and the upper dm- j sion of the third on the boys' side. Tm work at the South Town belt side schoca met with unaualified praise at the hsmj of the Inspectors, admirable habits <s : order and attention being found in ts» infant classes. The results at the Phillips* town side school showed an | upon the previous year, the infants P& | gress being fair, and the standard being taught with admirable cats «■» uniform success.
