AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the above Council was held at the office of the Council, Waiau, on Tuesday, 6th August, 1889. Present—Messrs J. H. Davison, Thos. Chapman, D. D. Macfarlane, and F. S. Northcofce. On the motion of Mr Macfarlane, seconded by Mr Chapman, Mr J. H. Davison was upanimously voted to the chair (pro tern. ). Resolved—That the clerk apply to the Property Tax Commissioners for a separate valuation roll for the Waiau Plains Water-race district. That the Overseer be instructed to improve a lew chains of the main road near the bridge crossing the water-race at Mouse Point. Mr R. B, Sibly Interviewed the Council and asked for i£lSO as progress money, to enable him to complete his contract on the Gorge road. The uverseer stated that he condemned some of the shingle carted on to the formation as being entirely inferior -to that described in the specification, therefore could not certify for any progress payments to be made to the contractor. The Chairman informed Mr Sibly that the Council received notices from the R.M. Court, under the Working Men's Wages Act, 1834, to retain the sum of £60 6a 7d from any money due or accruing due to him until judgment in the cases is given, and in consequence of these orders, and the Council's Inspector refasing to pass his work, the Council mast decline to give him any money on account at present. The following correspondence was read and dealt with '.—From the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, re the Waiau bridge, and forwarding extracts from Mr Withers', Assistant Engineer, report. Resolved that the Clerk be authorised to employ an Engineer to inspect and report to the Council on the state of the bridge. From the Property Tax Commissioners, Wellington, asking the Council to strike out the name of Geo. Machan, farmer. Green Park, from the roll, and charge the property to owner. Received. From the flame, directing that the valuation of Mr Wm. Atkinson, sheep farmer, Hanuier Plains, be reduced on the roll from £9600 to £6500. Received. Mr D. D. Macfarlane gave notice that he would move at the next ordinary meeting of the Council to be held on Tuesday, September 3rd next, that a general rate of 3th of a penny in the £ be made and levied upon all tfce rateable values of the rateable properties within the Amuri County for the period commencing on the 16th day of Jane, 1889, and ending on the 15th day of June, 1880, such rate to become due and payable in one sum on the 17th day of September, 1889. A petition was received from Mr Alexander McDonald and six otherproperty owners and residents in the Waiau, asking the Council toe-form a footpath along Montrose and Cheviot street*. Declined. The consideration of all other business was then deferred, and the Council adjourned until Tuesday, 20th Inst,
