LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

Wedn-esday, August 7. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. PETITIONS. Mr Shrimski presented a petition from Oamaru for the abolition of the Contagious Diseases Act, and in doing so said he did not identify himself with the prayer of the petition. KEW BILLS. The following Bills were introduced and read a first time:—Selectors Lands Re-valu-ation Bill; an Act to enable the Governor to issue a Crown grant of Orimakatea to certain Natives as a reward for military services; an Act to further Amend the Government Native Land Purchase Act, 1877; au Act to Amend the Mercantile Law Act, 1880; an Act to provide for the Payment by the Public Trustee of certain moneys received by him on account of Auckland Native Hostelry on account of the Civil list for Native purposes ; an Act to Amend the Shipping and Seamens Act, 1877. The Council rose at 2.40 till to-morrow.
