MAiNTENANCE.-William Winter wa§ charged with failing to obey an order ol the Court directing him to pay £1 Bβ per week towards his wife and four children, being in arrears .£35. It appears that the defendant had already been imprisoned for six months for previous default. The police reported that the defendant was of drunken habits, and spent all his money in that way. He was now ordered to be again Imprisoned for six months, with hard labor.—Alex Stewart Gilchrist was charged with having failed to contribute, as ordered, 6s per week towards the sapport of his two children in Buraham, being in arrears £11 Be. The boys had been sent to the institution for stealing, and their father bore a bad character. He was sentenced to be imprisoned, with hard labor, for three months. The CombulsoryClause.—JohnPearce James Irving, and John Dickson were charged, under the compulsory clauee oi the Education Act, with having failed ta send their children, who are within the statutory age, to the Halswell District .
