GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
During the past four weeks this market has been duller than it has been at any time during tbe last twelve months. The high prices demanded by holders for their produce has practically put a stop to business of any kind with our Australian neighbors, who hare had to look elsewhere for their requirements. The tone of the wheat market ie again weaker and large lines have been offering at a considerable conoesaion on late rates, without eliciting any satisfactory response from bnyers. Owing to the low prices now ruling at Home those who were unfortunately compelled early in the season to ship see now confronted with heavy losses. Oats have also a marked downward tendency, and latest advices from Australia are anything but reassuring to holders. For ryegrass and cocksfoot there was a moderate demand during the month. Very email stocks were held of the former, so that business was not extensive. Prime cocksfoot is also in narrovcompass, and commands better figures. Potatoes are offering freely, but buyers and sellers are still at variance ss to prices, although the latter show mote disposition to meet the views of the former. Very little business has been done in peas and beans, and prices are without change. Sailing freight to the United Kingdom is at the moment very scarce, and rates are a shade firmer. Butter has seen very little export business of late, and holders experience great difficulty in clearing their stocks. The same remarks apply to cheese. The weather continues in every way favorable for farming-operations, and a large area of this province has been sown down with our usual cereals and tubers.
