FOOTBALL.
INTERPROVINCIAL MATCH. On Saturday afternoon an important football match takes place at Lancaster Park between the pick of the Christchurch footballers and a strong team from Hawke's Bay. If the weather keeps fine the gtound should be in fairly good order. Yesterday afternoon a trial match, which the Prob.ibles won, was held on the North Park, and in the evening the team for Saturday waa fixed. It is as under;— FULL BACK. H. Wilson. THREE-QUARTERS. R. The following is a description of the Hawke's Bay team, which arrived this morning, and play at Christchurch on the 10th :— FULL-BACKS. St lb | St lb R. Le Quesne 12 10 | Hiroa 12 0 Le Qaesne is considered, at Napier, one of the best full-backs -it present in New Zealand. He is a fine kick and collar, and is very resourceful. Siroa Is equally good at forward, naif, or full-back. THREE-QUARTERS. st lb | st lb Wihape 12 7 j Lowry 11 7 James 13 2 | Taku 12 0 Mcßae 10 2 | Lowry, the captain of the team, is an old Cambridge player, a very flue dodgyrunner aad kick, plays centre. Taku is equally good in defence and attack, aud collars, kicks and runs finely. He was described by che Englishman 13 the best three-quarter tluy .iuc. \Vi!iap; is an extremely fast an 1 dodgy runner, who needs to use his kicking powers moce. McKae is a very clev.r Kick, with either foot, and James is a good all ro.iud mau, kicks aud collars excellently, and runs very strongly. Fleming 10 b' Johns 1° 1C Swan 010 Nathaniel 11 0 White 9 9 Hawkins 12 I Hughes 9 0 Corbett 10 11 Robson is a very fine all-round forward, and a well-kuown old-country player. Morrison, Corbett. Swan, and Juo. Fleming ara members ot the Pirates Football Ciub, noted for their fast following aud dribbling rushes. Hawkins and Ross are excellent scrum men, and Saunders is excellent in and out of the scrums. White is an excellent dribbler, and George Fleming is a heavy, strong forward. Nathaniel is one of the best followers in the team, and collars and dribbles excellently. Hughes collars and dribbles well. _, __ _ Travelling with the team is Mr E. D. Hoban, Secretary of the Hawke's Bay Rugby Onion; and Mr Thomas Sidey, a well-known Napier enthusiast. The team will leave Christchurch to-day at 11 a.m.. to play a match—their first in this Island—at Timaru against the South Canterbury. [press association TELEGRAMS. I DUNEDIN, August 6. The Rugby Union intend taking action with reference to the scandal in connection with the Maoris' match at Brisbane. WELLINGTON, August G. Gage left to join the Native team, but will only accompany them a 9 far as Wellington. Scott will not consent, to play on Newton Park, and as it is unlikely the Council will give the use of the Basin Reserve the Maoris will probably not play here.
