NELSON BICYCLE SPORTS.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] NELSON, August 5. To-dayhas been pretty generally observed as a public holiday, and the weather has been lovely. The Nelson Bicycle Clubs Tournament in Trafalgar Park was largely attended. The cyclists mustered in the morning and rode in procession to the ground, when an excellent day's r,port took place, some of the finishes being very exciting. The one-mile maiden ordinary bicycle handicap was won by Shallcrass, in Smin 25sec. Eleven started. The mile maiden race (safety) was won by Barltrop in 3min 32sec. Eighteen entered for the 100 yards footballers' foot race, with a football under arm—Simpson won. Fourteen started for the one mile ordinary bicycle handicap, raced in heats —A. E. Houndsell (25yds) won in 3min 7_sec; Shallcrass (100 yds), 2. Barltrop won the two mile safety, having 400 yds start; Thomas (550 yds), 2; Rowell (scr), 3, and within a few inches of the second. The two mile trotting handicap, in saddle, was won by Mr Hoult's Clyde (50sec start), 1; Mr Gardner's Doctor (SOsec), 2; Mr Askew's Tottie, 3. Mr Wilkie's Blue Gum broke repeatedly. The half-mile foot-race, footballers' championship — Busch 1, Whitwell 2. Five mile bicycle handicap—Livingstone, (600 yds), 1; A. Hounsell, (scr.), 2; Curtis, (scr.), 3. Time 17min. Three mile trotting race (saddle)— Clyde, (50 sees), 1; Tottie, 2; Bluegum, 3. Time 9min lsec. The half-mile consolation bicycle handicap was won by Rowell from scratch.
