GRAIN SALES.

Messrs H. Matsojj and Co. (associated with the National Mortgage and Ai»ency, Company of New Zealand, Limited), report for the week ending August 3rd:—A slight appreciation of enhanced values in wheat was evinced during the early part of the week In consequence of reported bad weather for harvesting in Europe, but in the absence of available space these have not been upheld, while Australian advices continue to show an all-round decline. Holders of substantial lines, however, are loth to quit unless at something more than is now ofFering. We trust their desires will not be unfulfilled. Oats are scarcely as lively, the Victorian budget having a depressing effect on these, as well as barley, although we are assured that extra duties will not he?evied till December. Notwithstanding previous predictions, Derwent potatoes do not seem to meet with as much favor i n Sydney as was anticipated, and prices now olFered, we think, should be accepted, aa they are fairly remunerative. Grassseed, clovers,&c., are well enquired for, and command good {>rices for clean samples. Dairy produce s quite dormant, nothing worth mentioning having come under our notice. At auction to-day about 50 per cent, of lines submitted were placed at full rates. The attendance was good and biddings spirited. Local requirements were hardly met, as the class most in request was not on offer. Quotations: — Wheat— Tuscan 3s 6d, Hunter's 3s 2d, pearl 3s 3d, f.o.b.
