S.S. TAKAPUNA.

i Takapana, e.s., Union Company's fteamer, Capt. Grant, arrived at 7 a.m. on Saturday from Onehunga and way ports. Ber purser reports leaving Onehunga ac ajn. on 80th; called &r. usual at Taranaki, Nelson, Picton, and Wellington, leaving the latter port at 3.10 p.m. on Friday, and arriving here as above, having experienced fine weather down : the coast. She left for Wellington again on Saturday night. On the passage from Wellington a pleasing little ceremony took place on board. Mr McLean, Chief Officer, being about to enter the matrimonial state, he was made the recipient of an eleaant time-piece by his fellow officers and shipmates. Captain Grant in making the presentation, read the following testimonial:—" To Mr McLean— We the undersigned, your shipmates, on the eve of your approaching marriage, think it a fit and proper occasion to show you the esteem in which you are held by as, and think our good wishes should ■take a more substantial form than mere words. Though to many of us you are comparatively a stranger, yet the few months we have bsen together you have endeared yourself to us by your social and other qualities, and our fervent . wish is that we may have your smiling lace with us again. In presenting you writh this token of our respect, we hope roa will accept it, not so much for its Intrinsic value, as from the motives which prompt us to give it, coupled with our beat wishes 'for yourself and the future Mrs McLean's happiness, health and prosperity. May this timepiece register the Soars as free from care, truthfully, and ts honestly as is the desire of the subscribers."—(Signed by the captain, officers and crew.) Mr McLean, in a suitable little speech, acknowledged the gift, and after three cheers had been given by those present, the proceedings terminated.
