WAIPARA.
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday, July 2nd. PresentMessrs Douglas, Little, Hall and Beecc. Mr Douglas was elected Acting Chairman during the absence of Mr Lance, M.H.R. Correspondence was read from the Hoapital Board re contribution. Mr C. Gartner, requesting the Board to shingle his cutting and put a footbridge over Waikari creek. From Mr J. G. S. Tonkin asking leave to remove a culvert. From Mr Alexander Gray asking the Board to make portions ot the road passing his house. FroJα Mr James Gibb asking extension of time to complete bridge on Happy Valley road, granted. From the New Zealand Exhibition Committee re subscriptions; received. From the Treasury advising payment of 2s 6d under Slaughter Houses Act. The Engineer's report was then read. Mr Black waited on the Board, asking; that Mr W. Turner be requested to close the gateway and repair his (Mr Black's) fence, the use of which had been given while the road was being made. The Engineer was instructed to see Mr Turner on the matter. It was resolved— That the Clerk write to the Commissioner of Lands to ascertain how much money has accrued from the land fund in respect to Waltohi Settlement. That the Engineer report on the site for a footbridge at Mr Gartner's. That Mr Tonkin's application be granted. That the Engineer peg off road to Montserrat and call tenders for the work. To write Constable Morgan re stray cattle and horses on the roads. The Engineer to report at the next meeting on the least quantity of shingle required to repair the worst portions ol the Horsley Down, Allandale, North, Motonau, Gray's and Omihi roads. To put in extra groins, in Waikari Creek'to protect the willows if found necessary. That the accounts owing to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board be paid. The Engineer to report on the public cemetery. To put in kerbing at O'CarrolTs corner. Owing to the balance-sheet not having yet been returned from the Audit Office, the Board is unable to put a statement of accounts before the ratepayers, but a meeting will be called as soon as same fa received. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Hall, seconded by Mr Reese—' , That a general rate of seven-sixteenths of a penny in the pound be struck and levied over all the rateable property in the Weipara district, and to become due and Dayable in one sum on July 15th Inst. A letter was received from Mr A. Earshman, re proposed road through reserve 1149. The Clerk was instructed to forward all correspondence. Accounts amounting tc £35618s 7d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
